My dd is thinking about going to the LVNPAA primarily to audition for Univ of the Arts. That is one of the schools in her “top 6”.

One advantage to this would be that it is early in the season and it would be a good chance to try out her material.

A disadvantage is that it is a less intimate setting than auditioning on campus or at the regular Unifieds.

Any thoughts? Comments?

Given that UArts is in your D's "top 6", I would give serious consideration to an on campus audition. The time allotted to each auditioner at LVNPPA appears to be limited to 90 seconds (which seems to be LVNPPA's limitations, not any of the schools in attendance). In contrast, the UArts on campus auditions allow for 3 minutes to do 2 monologues and 4 minutes to do 2 songs. This is a significant difference in the opportunity to show your stuff!!! In addition, at the on campus audition, students are interviewed as part of the audition process, providing yet another opportunity to have the auditors get to know a bit more about you.

Finally, if on campus, there is a load of opportunity to speak to current students, ask questions, see the facilities and explore the theatre district where UArts is located. You will walk away with a wealth of information and impressions that are critical to sensibly distinguishing between schools on the "top 6 list", particularly when it comes time to make some decisions about where to go. While it would be quite a trek to come to the east coast, if your D has strong feelings about UArts, I think it would be worth it and perhaps you can structure the timing so that it is part of a sweep of other mid-Atlantic east coast schools at which your daughter wants to audition (if any).

Thanks for your reply! I've been reading your posts re: UArts with interest since you have so much first hand knowledge. I'm sure that the on-campus audition is the best way to go if we can swing it.

We need to find out if the LVNPAA audition allows the schools to have a callback the next day and spend more time with the applicants. Something to explore with the program director...it looks like that is an option for dance but it's not clear in regards to MT.
