Hi everyone, this is probably a question many have on their minds: When is the latest that I could send Harvard college updates and have it considered in my admission decision? Around when do they make final cuts as a committee, and close shop to such updates on significant achievements?

I have a major international competition ending on March 6 and think that success there would help my case. I also have some other updates to send for things that have already taken place, and would prefer to send them together. However, if waiting for March 6th, say, would endanger even those from being considered, then I'd consider sending the update now.

Thanks to all for your much appreciated comments! :)

I’d disagree. Because the office of financial aid prepares aid packages for all prospective candidates, committee can go far later than most colleges. Send your update all together on March 7th. They will be considered, and a major international competition along with a few other nice things in the same update can really tip the scales.

I think you should update now and include in the update that you are a finalist (or whatever) in that competition and plan to send an additional up date in march. By march 7 your file could already have been reviewed by committee. Harvard had over 30000 apps. They have to dump some by march 7 or they would never get finished by the decision date. I would not take a chance.

Thanks for the replies guys. Would be interested to read more responses though. It doesn’t seem like a question with a clear-cut answer, but hopefully we can come to a consensus. I’d really prefer sending the updates together!

There is no way of answering you because noone can know when precisely your application is being reviewed. However the Harvard admisssions committee is meeting constantly in February and lots of files are reviewed in February. I would suggest mid-February update. As to “how”, this is what Harvard Admissions emailed me:

"please send an update with this information in the text of an e-mail to fileroom@fas.harvard.edu/email. Put “Update” and your first and last name, in the subject line of the e-mail.

Please make sure your name, secondary school, city, and state (or country) is at the top of the e-mail in text, and we’re happy to place this in your admissions file as an update/additional information."

Sorry to revive the thread, but I’ll have to be making a decision soon, and I’d still really appreciate any additional thoughts on this matter. Thanks guys!

Send it all together. A minor update may get overlooked, but a large update will get noticed more easily. The dates are already so close together that no advantage will be derived from sending the two updates separately.
