last chances thread

hey, i'm not amazingly involved in everything like most people here but want to see if my hard work gives me a shot

GPA: UW 4.0 no idea weighted but i've been taking the hardest schedule possible so it should be good
Rank: 1/550
SATs: 700V 760M 680W 1460/1600 2140/2400
SAT 2s: 800 chem 780 math2
APs i got all 5s on chem, calc ab, and stat i'm taking psych, calc bc, french, and eng next year

EC (and I know I lack here but at my school with sports I could never do as much as people here):
Field Hockey- involves out of season vounteering at camps, winter leagues
Track
Softball
NHS
French Club
Peer Tutoring
Hospital Volunteer 100+ hours
Cultural Awareness Club

I got the Harvard Book Award

My recs will be awesome and i'm trying to make my essays the same

These are not all my schools merely the ones I want to be chanced on:
Stanford
UPenn
Dartmouth
Pomona
William and Mary (I'm oos i live in PA)
UVA

Thanks and I'd love to hear any suggestions.

Your test scores are kind of low for the Ivies and Stanford, even for UVA, but that is the only problem I see for you. If you have slightly raised test scores, I have no doubt that you will get into UVA, provided your essays aren't crap. With the Ivies and Stanford, a big factor will be luck, but I believe you have a very good chance of getting in if your test scores are higher and your essays are good.

yeah the only weakness i might see is your test scores. gpa, rank, EC's, SATII's, and courseload all look great. stanford is ur biggest reach but u could get in with some good essays.
stanford-reach
penn-low reach
dartmouth-low reach
pomona-low reach
w&m-match
uva-match

thanks these are the schools that seem hardest for me so i'm glad you havent just told me i have no chance makes me feel better

i know the kid that got the harvard book award in my class was a friggin genius. so if you're anything like him, you should be good. again, SAT's could be higher but not to worry. plenty of students get in with lower.

If those were the hardest schools on your list I think you'll be alright when you start getting acceptance/rejection letters back.

thanks again. I have a question: where do you put something like the Harvard Book Award on applications?

should be a place for awards/achievements, that sort of thing. If you don't find any place, send a resume to them (which is probably advisable for all other colleges as well)

your pretty well off except for SATI score which is on the low side for ivies, so perhaps retake and aim for 2200+? well your rank really helps you and dont worry your ECs dont suck as much as mine. xP

I would say if you can get 2200+ on SATI, then in at everything except stanford. Stanford is still a chance but my gut gives ya a 30/70 chance

glhf applying to college

chance me please :)

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=371462

you know what's weird, i read all these chance threads and everyone seems to be super harsh. So I decide to make one fearing the worst and everyone seems way easier on me. Or maybe I'm just hard on myself. Anyway thanks for chancing me, now I just have to decide where I'm actually applying and write some great essays.

New school,
What kind of chance do you think I have at Rice?

Anybody have any thoughts?

I hate to do this but bump

Your chances are good at Rice.

Really? thats awesome because I have recently got really interested in it.
