Last Date to Take the ACT

I got this brochure from Columbia that was a guide to applying and it said the last date you can test and still be able to send in your scores is January. I didn't understand that though because the deadline for the application is January 1st so they wouldn't get the scores by that point. Would this be true(meaning sending in your scores after the common app is sent in) for most colleges or do you think it's just Columbia? I was planning on using this for the December 14th ACT date if I can. Thanks!

Although the application is due in January you can still take your ACT in January. By the time they sit down to read your application, they will have your ACT score.

There is no January ACT. There is a Jan SAT date and a Feb ACT.

As to what colleges accept, you cannot conclude all do the same. a large number accept through the Jan SAT test despite having an early Jan application deadline. If you send the Jan scores you should identify the college as one to automatically receive scores upon release in your test registration (e.g., as one of your free sends), since that results in the fastest form of delivery.

Only a small number accept the Feb ACT test.

A very large number, probably exceeding the number that accept Jan SAT scores, require all testing to be done by Dec, but accept the Dec tests including the Dec ACT even if the scores arrive after the Jan application deadline.

Then there are exceptions to all of the above as some colleges actually require all scores to be in their hands by their application deadline which could rule out the Dec ACT.

In other words, assume nothing about any particular college until you have checked its particular rules.
