Last Fafsa EVER submitted

I see the glimmering light at the end of this money draining tunnel. Not that it won't have been worth the 60K plus that I will have spent

I realize there is no guarantee that I won't be helping my son financially in some way after he graduates, but I get to decide how much $$$ he gets (beyond living in my house and eating).

I've already told him not to expect me to subsidize him living anywhere else but back at home.

Congratulations!

Woo hoo…I can’t even imagine see that. I’m in year three, 2 Ss over lap next year then #S3 comes along with an overlap. Nine more FAFSAs and potential CSS Profiles TBD. This is far, far more painful than the 10 years of braces payments. You must be filling pretty frisky.

the financial umbilical cord hasn’t been cut yet :-)

and the fafsa is an EASY form for me. I just can’t believe that I’ve done it 4 times already

when I think that I will have paid out of savings in 4 years more than 75% of the balance on my house mortgage. Someday I might have this elusive thing people refer to as ‘disposable income’. thankfully I am blessed with a stable job and have a chance to rebuild savings. Truth be told I have always will been and always will be a frugal person.

I have a second grader. Long road ahead.

This is our last FAFSA year as well.

Rejoice!!

Lucky you! Congrats! I am counting the years! lol

<>

now that’s spreading them out! after my hysterectomy last week I was put on the maternity ward to recover. people kept coming in and asking how I felt after my C-section (guess they didn’t see my chart). I am 48. I wondered out loud “wasn’t I too old to have had a baby”, they replied “we have people your age (and older) in here all the time”. More power to them.

Next year will be my last FAFSA – well, last for undergrad, I guess if my son goes to law school I’ll have to do them, but that’s different since it won’t be generating an EFC for me.

My kids are a couple years apart in age, but the younger one started college early so as it turns out they’ve overlapped all four years. So, it’s been 2 FAFSAs per year for me, plus CSS Profile for my son each year.

It’s not that hard for me either. We have very simple finances. But I’ll be glad to be done with them just the same. About this time next year I’ll be going through it for the last time.

As we are finding out med schools’ need the FAFSA.

Fun.

Kat

We did our last FAFSA (AND Profile) last year…eight filings for undergrad and two for son’s grad school (his…but we helped). There IS light at the end of the tunnel for everyone. Our last tuition payment is coming up!!! Woohoo…we’ve been making college payments since May 2003.

Woohoo! You’re all my heroes! It’s good to know it CAN be survived. I have only one child, senior this year, and I was DREADING it for MONTHS. Because I also have a business, it did turn out to be QUITE a chore. BUT…I’ll join the “I’m done” celebration only because I’m done for this first year. But, knowing I’ll only have 4 total (and maybe less, if she goes to her state Uni where we qualify for no aid!). Wow…who would be jealous of me then, eh? ONE Fafsa all my life!

So this year I’ve:
Gotten to the accountant and gotten my personal/corp taxes estimated.
Filed FAFSA estimated.
Got my final taxes filed.
Corrected Fafsa.
Completed CSS Profile.
Completed the TONS of non-custodial WAIVER requests (so many differences).
Sent pers. and corp. tax returns for 2 years to one college direct.
Sent the same to other colleges via IDOC.
Completed one colleges completely separate aid appliction.
Been verifying who has what at each website, looking good so far.
MY paperwork stack was bigger than my D’s application paperwork stack.

Now I PRAY for no “glitches”.

Congrats to y’all.

If she goes to state school and you want her to take ANY stafford loans out (unsubsidized if you don’t have ‘need’) then you must fill out the fafsa. If you are willing/able to pay the full cost, then by all means, don’t do the fafsa.

Thanks sue…but she’ll be “full riding” it (or close) at state school. THAT’s the draw. And Mom would be THRILLED!!! to not pay OR not have to fill out any paperwork. Yeehaw!

And her 2nd choice is FAFSA only so even THAT sounds nice at this point.

THanks.

Compared to what you’ve had to do this year, R124687, next year will seem like a breeze even if you are submitting FAFSA and/or Profile. At least after the first year you’ll only be doing it for one school, and the deadlines are often later.

I’m impressed with you, R124687!
Our son will be in last year of masters for 2010-11 so we did finally get to his last FAFSA.
But I really didn’t figure out the ‘system’ like you did until about his junior year in college!
Especially that pesky tuition statement that’s very useful for Hope or Lifetime Learning IF you can figure out WHERE to plug it in to Turbotax.

Grad FAFSA is much easier since for masters at least, it only required son’s info, not ours.

Congrats to thumper1 on final tuition payment after 7 years! I wish I could say the same but we did take out a (small) parent loan through NJClass that we’ll be paying off for a few years. It can go for 10 years I guess but we have no desire to drag it out that long (hopefully).

Congratulations, Sue! I haven’t started my Fafsa/Profile yet - but plan to do so by mid March. It’ll be my LAST Fafsa ever, after 7 years of filling them out!!!

I was just thinking that at least with my boys (they are twins) I get to deal with the FAFSA twice for four years, rather than stringing it out over more years.

Then there are my girls. One is in first grade and the other is 2. They will be four years apart in school…so once they get to college age I’ll have eight straight years of FAFSA insanity. Ugh.

YAY!! I finished our last FAFSA a week or so ago also! I totally hated the process all these years. I think it’s the only part of daughter’s growing up and out of here that I am completely happy about ;)

Last FAFSA here, too. Of course, we still have the loans to pay off…but she graduates next year-Wahoo!!!
