I don’t know where best to put this …
My kid is a 9th grade day student. Today is PSAT day for 10th and 11th graders. Since freshmen had no classes, I just got to take him and a couple of his boarding friends out to lunch.
I loved meeting his new friends and hearing their stories from home and stories from the first weeks of school!
Today was PSAT day at our school as well! It was mandatory for all Freshman as well though! She did enjoy getting done by noon though! That’s awesome that you got to do that @carpoolingma Yay!
My kid has a lot of juniors in one of her elective classes, so it was cancelled… Her advisor took her out to Starbucks instead. She needed a break from campus and Starbucks made her very happy! ~O)
Our kids took the PSAT last Saturday. As athletes, the school didn’t want to cancel games, so they had to take it st 6:30am. Pretty brutal- lots of talk about it impacting scores this year.
Ugh. That is unfortunate! I know if I had to take a standardized test at 6:30AM it would affect my score. I always wished they’d offer them in the afternoon or evening as I’m not an early bird.
My son took it this past Saturday. I know the bus took them over at 7. It was good to get it out of the way
Daughter says she made a second very close friend, who also shares most of her interests. This time she is a freshman too. It is a slow process for her, but in the right direction.
On the plane bringing DC home for Thanksgiving; so happy and thankful indeed!
We will see our daughter tomorrow, after 10 weeks.
We will see our son on Sunday. He wasn’t planning to come home for Thanksgiving, but things changed. Woo hoo! He hasn’t been home since early August.
(I know, I know, he’s not at BS anymore, but military parents drive me nuts, so I haven’t left here yet.)
My kid is home and now all is right with the world!
Yoo hoo @ChoatieMom :x You can stay here until he graduates or longer
DS took a shared van at 6:45 am and is waiting at the airport gate.
I booked an earlier flight than usual so he could not take the usual charter bus. He managed to schedule the airport ride after a dozen text exchanges with me. One more life skill learned
I have three teens at home now! My daughter brought home a friend, an international student who isn’t going home until winter break.
GoatKid arriving home tomorrow afternoon. But today, today I got THE call! You know, the one I’ve been expecting thanks to collective CC wisdom. The “I’m not good in anything, everyone is better than me, my grades are a disaster, I’ll never get into a decent college” call. Took it as a pro and gave the “big fish, small pong” talk. Also redefined “disaster” as not equaling a couple of Bs in your first semester in your freshmen year at BS. Will treat with mashed potatoes, banana pudding, lots of sleep, and a purring kitty next week.
@twinsmama So nice of you to open your home to an international student for the week!
You go, @GoatMama! I’m sure things will seem much brighter after she gets home. I think most of us have gotten at least one call like that.
PS. I love your avatar… I assume that is Goat Daughter’s artwork!
Well, this Thanksgiving I’ll be thankful for CC! I would have went into Level 10 panic mode had I not learned about “The Call” from all you veteran BS parents. Happy Thanksgiving to all, parents and kids of all ages!
The avatar - yes, a GoatKid artwork from a few years back.
@ChoatieMom Is there anywhere on this forum where you shared how ChoatieKid arrived at the decision to apply to the service academies?
@doschicos , Nice for me! - our guest cooked us a full Korean dinner tonight (after seeking cooking advice in the Korean supermarket we visited and then calling her grandma, the real authority, as soon as the time zone difference permitted).
What a treat! We’ve been fortunate to have gotten exposure to some delicious Korean cuisine through friends/classmates of the kinds. It’s very labor intensive! Glad halmonee was able to loop in to share her tips.
