Looking for help in deciding between JMU and GMU. My D has narrowed it to these two.

Anyone have the same decision? What did you decide and why?

Both seem to be good schools with benefits. My D is leaning toward History/Global affairs with an eventual masters in teaching.

GMU is closer to home, and she got $1,ooo more in grant money from them.

JMU seems to be the bigger named school with more prestige.

thanks for any advice.

On the eastcoast, my daughter’s friends would much rather attend JMU, with only one who even looked at GMU for consideration as a safety. Also, I agree with your last statement:
“JMU seems to be the bigger named school with more prestige.”

I think more accomplished students will fill the JMU class.

JMU has a completely different culture than GMU. At least, that is what I am told. JMU offers a traditional campus centric experience. Kids tend to stick around - every weekend. Just try to pry most of them away for the weekend. GMU is just not like that.
