Even though the priority deadline was on November 9th, I think my counselor turned in her recommendation on November 16th (it was my fault, as I misspelled her email on the recommendation provider list on the application website and didn't realize that until 6 days after the application deadline). Is that going to be a problem? And would my application count as "on time" for the priority deadline?

I would call admissions to confirm, but we were told during our campus visit that everything had to be in by the priority deadline to get the early review.

Its always worth making the call.

you should be fine. as long as your application is turned in then it’s ok. counselor recommendations, sat scores, and transcripts can come in later :)

With all due respect msh1004, I’m not sure you can make such assurances. Last year, we were told the same thing that Amazhon was told - the deadline is when EVERYTHING has to be in by. If that were not the case, later SAT/ACT exam dates would be accepted. We are not talking about even a postmark with the deadline date, but an entire week past. If the issue was related to extensive power loss from Sandy (and therefore no school access) beyond the November 9th date, that would be a different scenario.

The only way to know for sure is by calling admissions.

The only question I have is why the counselor would not be aware of the recommendation request prior to the November 16th date when you noted and made the correction for the email. If you notified him/her that you would like a recommendation and are applying to Maryland for priority consideration, I wouldn’t think the counselor would wait for the email to send in the letter. When did you talk to your counselor about your intentions? If the counselor was waiting for an email “invitation” and was aware that you are applying for priority consideration, why wouldn’t he/she call you down to ask you why they haven’t gotten the anticipated email from Maryland…? I don’t believe an email address is required to submit a letter, but rather it is helpful for tracking purposes (easier to attach to your student account) and the opportunity to send reminders of the deadline. I would think that the counselor would have knowledge of how and when to submit letters to Maryland, since letters may be faxed or mailed. It may in fact have already been done prior to your noting the email address error. I would check with your counselor to clarify if this might be the case. Here’s hoping for the best!

Mary is correct. The admissions rep who hosted our session said anything not received and your app is marked incomplete and moved to the next round.

Now what impact Sandy flexible if they are flexible regarding storm related issues, I can’t say.

As for counselors, at our school my D has to follow up to ensure her materials are in on time. Unfortunately on several occasions we’ve had forms and requests not make it. I’m using this as a learning opportunity for my D that at the end of the days, she’s responsible for her application. I’m sure she’s a pest right now to her teachers and counselors to make sure everything is complete, but she’ll make a great manager one day!
