Late Decision Announcement Costs Whitman

Whitman is the only school out of a dozen that my daughter applied to from which we have yet to receive any decision news.

We're on the East coast. We could not visit all of the schools she applied to. But now that we know where she's been accepted, we can visit the top two or three on her list to help her decide.

She's already processing her decision about which school she wants to attend. She's already gotten over the disappointment of a couple of rejections. She's already crossed a couple of the "safety" type schools off of here list. Her mind is now occupied with mullling her top two or three choices.

We're already making travel plans. There are only so many travel days available to us in April. If we want to take advantage of the reduced prices for 14 day advance airline tickets then the opportunities for travel are even less.

Since we haven't heard from Whitman is just not in the mix. She's not thinking seriously about it. We have no travel plans to visit Whitman.

It's too bad too. Whitman was one of her favorites at the start of the college search and application process. But because they're the last to announce, the way things look right now, she won't go there.

I understand that completely-- I live in New Jersey, so it took a lot of encouragement for my parents to even consider flying me to Washington if I got in. Now, even if I do get into Whitman, it is going to be difficult for me to fit plans in to travel there, since it would be such a big trip. I’m really disappointed, because Whitman seems like a really great school. I’m hoping their decision will come today or tomorrow. It’s so difficult to try to weed out colleges and figure out where I’m going when I haven’t heard from one of my top schools.

We got ours very late too. Check the website if you haven’t already; it’s probably there by now. It was 2 weeks later than everyone else, and the only private school that didn’t send a letter.

Their FA was crazy late. I got my acceptance early, about 3 weeks before I got my FA today. But that didn’t cost them me–they really gave good aid, and since I’ve visited twice and really like it, I’ve decided to go.
