So I have a friend who applied to Yale in the early round and was deferred. Basically, her family is super low income and made her apply to only three unremarkable,* cheap, local colleges. She applied to Yale on her own because they didn't believe that any college could truly be 100% need-meeting.

After deferral, she got an interview request for the 21st of March. She says it went very well, and that the regional chairman of alumni interviewers (something to that effect) himself drove to a location near her home so they could talk.

March 21st is cutting it a bit close, especially since CC generally agrees that HYPS makes most decisions before or in early March. Does this mean something exciting for her? I'm really crossing my fingers for my friend. And yes, yes, I realize this post is cutting it close as well, but it's always nice to learn a little something new about that nebulous college admissions process! Lots of exploding tanks!

No elitism meant. Seriously. I'm in a bit of grump-rush today and didn't have to time to phrase everything *just so for the easily affronted.

I had a second harvard interview recently and there’s a whole thread of speculation around that as well… I think especially as its so close to decision day that she’s either in or waitlisted and they couldn’t decide :)

On the flip side, do we have any idea what a super early interview means? Mine was in mid January (it went well, although I don’t want to get my hopes up).

That’s about what I figured. I’m okay either way; Yale and Northwestern are my top choices and I was accepted at NU, so at this point Yale would be a (very, very nice) bonus.

My son was in the same boat as you and had already accepted into NU when he was called off the waitlist for Yale. He also would have been fine with NU so congrats on your acceptance to a very nice university and good luck today.
