Late submission of financial aid

I applied for Cornell but I didn't realize the financial aid has a deadline on the same day as the commonapp deadline. (i.e. yesterday)
How drastically would it affect the chance of receiving financial aid assuming that I am admitted, or would it incur any penalties?

Get the forms filled out IMMEDIATELY. Then submit to Cornell. You will need to contact that school to see what their policy is regarding “late” submissions. BUT do get them done ASAP.

As an international student, financial aid forms are due today. Financial aid forms for US citizens and permanent residents are not due until 2/15.

If your paper work is due today, no one here will be able to give you a definitive answer. Your best bet would be to get on the phone and contact the FA office now so that you can get the correct advice as to how to proceed.

The worst of all is that the application requires the photocopy of passport.
But my passport has expired, and under normal procedure it requires 10 work days to apply for a new one.
If I’m lucky, they will accept my reasons and will give me one in hours.
But if not, my application has to be delayed for two weeks.
If it’s the latter, is it sure that my application is hopeless?

Did you call Cornell? Move forward, gather your information and send it overnight mail with copies of your expired passport if you do not get a new one today. You can always amend your application by sending a copy of the new passport when you get it.

Submit it with a copy of the expired passport and a note that the renewal is in process, then forward the updated copy when you have it.

If this were a public school you would likely be out of luck, it seems like privates have more flexibility, so you may be okay, but get it in NOW, not in two weeks. Given the international times zones and especially since Monday was a holiday in many places, you may be just fine.
