'Lateral transfer' to Clark Honors College

My D applied to UO based on recommendation of a friend's family. At the time we didn't know about the Clark Honor's College. Honor's college invitations are extended after regular admissions process in CA. Now D has visited UO and in awe of campus, but it's too late to apply to the Honor's College. She did apply for regular admission. I found reference to lateral transfers from within UO, but wonder when is the earliest after admission one can apply? After Freshman year, Sophomore year?

From the UO web site:

"The Clark Honors College also welcomes current U of O students to apply as “lateral applicants” prior to their Junior year. Lateral applicants must submit a supplemental paper application to be considered for admission. In addition, lateral applicants are responsible for following the status of their application by contacting the CHC admissions office as it will not appear on DuckWeb."

I don’t think the honors college does admissions mid-term, so the next time to apply would be for the fall of 2013. (Best to confirm this by calling the honors college, though, because this is just how it looks to me.)

My daughter transferred to UO and the honors college as a sophomore (she was transferring from another Oregon university - so not a “lateral” transfer). It was her plan from the get-go to enroll at the honors college, so in her first year at her initial university she took classes that would satisfy honors college requirements; math and science, foreign language, multi-cultural subjects. The transfer went smoothly, and then in her sophomore year (first year at UO and CHC) she took the honors college required literature and social science seminar series at the same time. This worked out great for her.

So look carefully at the honors college requirements – they are different from the general UO requirements. For example, your daughter could waste some time and money taking the usual freshman comp class, which is not an honors college requirement, but is for general UO students.

My daughter is graduating this June. Being at UO and in the honors college has been a wonderful experience for her!

The absolute earliest term a student entering Fall 2012 could transfer to the honors college is Winter 2013. The deadline for that application is October 15, 2012, but the CHC can only admit applicants for Winter if there is space available; you cannot transfer to the CHC for Spring term. Even if space is available, that deadline can be hard to meet for a student adjusting to a new life at college, in which case he or she can apply to enter Fall 2013 by November 1, 2012 (for early notification), or January 15, 2013 (the final deadline).

Thank you! Very useful information for planning.
