Was there no Latino student recruitment weekend this year? I'm Latino and I didn't get a letter but my friend is black and got one with BSAI. Does anyone know? Was I just not competitive enough?

LSRW (Latino Student Recruitment Weekend) is happening this year (on the weekend of the 17th, at least). These programs are, however, for admitted students (and act as likely letters), so it is possible that you were admitted but not invited to LSRW (perhaps with a computer glitch or for space reasons), but it may also be possible that you were not admitted to Duke, unfortunately.

Have these invitations been sent out this year?

^^That’s also a good point, sorry. LSRW isn’t until mid April, while BSAI is this weekend, so it’s possible invites haven’t gone out yet.

My S just got an invitation (likely letter)!

@jrmama496 does it say it was extended to all Latinos? I’m Latino and I didn’t get one so was I rejected or wait listed?

Did you get the invitation by mail or email??

It was am email that said:

“Greetings from Duke University! In recognition of your strong academic and extracurricular accomplishments, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the entire Duke community are thrilled to invite you to the 15th annual Latino Student Recruitment Weekend (LSRW), being held from April 17-20, 2014. During LSRW, you will join fellow Latino applicants from across the country and the world in an exploration of the amazing community that our talented and eclectic students have built over generations.”

and:

“We are unable to invite every student who applied for admission and will continue to invite students as space allows.”

and:

“FAQs
Does this mean I’ve been admitted to Duke?
Naturally, inviting you to campus means we think you are a very strong candidate for admission. Occasionally, something happens or we receive new information between the time we send invitations and the time we finalize admissions decisions, and we find we can’t admit someone we’ve invited. However, that’s very rare. Your chances of being admitted are excellent.”
