I am applying for law school this Fall but I was wondering if I could go to New York law school’s 2 year program which starts in January 2016 until I get accepted to the school that I want. I am anxious to start my law school education and since New York law school is one of the only schools that starts in January I wanted to go there and when I get accepted to another school next fall as a freshman transfer my credits. Can I do that??
@XUGRAD: Technically yes, you can do that, you just shouldn’t. New York Law School is abysmal. You are more likely to end up unemployed from NYLS than just about any other school. Transferring won’t help you because most employers paying well enough for you to pay back your loans only care about your first year. That will be at NYLS regardless of transferring.
It’s also pretty unlikely you’ll be able to transfer anywhere worth transferring to. To get into a decent school from NYLS you’ll need to be at the very top of your class, probably at least top 5%. You have a 95% chance of not being able to do that. This plan also makes no sense because why would any other school let you graduate in 2 years just because NYLS would?
XUGrad, it’s unlikely that you could easily take that route. Transferring is difficult.
Why not just wait and start law school at the best law school that you can get into? It’s a bad job market now, and the longer you wait, the better.
Does not sound like a good plan for all the reasons listed above. If you are really anxious and could get accepted Michigan does have a summer start for about 1/5th of its 1L class.
thank you guys! I wont even bother applying!
