Do u think I have a shot for Lawrenceville? Any input would be absolutely fantastic. Appreciate it
They want students to take Geo at 9th grade for Math
@PrepSchools I’m in 8th applying for 9th. So right now I’m taking algebra but next year I should be taking geometry
Alright, but however I think you should look at Choate, Deerfield, Androver and Exeter.
The reason is because Lawrenceville doesn’t have APs and plus if you could pay full tuition I recommend these schools especially Deerfield. Trust me Choate, Deerfield, Androver and Exeter is better than Lawrenceville and plus you have a pretty good chance,
Alright thanks. The only problem is is that my grandpa and grandma when to Exeter and hated it. But I really support your input and cho ate Deerfield and Andover are also good schools that I might be applying to. Really appreciate everything @PrepSchools
And yea, it is quite frustrating how Lawrenceville has no AP’s
You already got your 2nd quarter report? We get ours almost in February.
PrepSchools your statement regarding Lawrenceville is ridiculous. Lawrenceville is as good or better than any of the schools you mention. The lack of AP classes is not important. They have honors classes which cover the AP topics and if you look at the schools matriculation info you’ll see that they do amazing. My daughter has already taken a number of AP tests receiving 4s and 5s and 800 scores on her subject tests (I’ll also add earned a score over 2300 on her SAT). Is your goal to learn as much as possible and not be constrained by the AP syllabus or is it to learn and be challenged as much as possible?
I agree @thirdbase I’ve heard that they cover all the same topics, but they are just not referred to as AP’s. Mistake me if I’m wrong please. And one question, do you thunk I have a chance to get in?
@joebspy5 you certainly stand a fair chance. I assume you are applying for 9th grade - I think your original post stated 8th grade (Lawrenceville starts in 9th grade which they call second form). Colleges do not care how many AP classes you take, they do care that you take as competitive and as challenging a schedule as your school allows. Lawrenceville was one of the high schools who was involved in establishing the AP program when it first began. Like many other schools Lawrenceville has abandoned AP classes. One of the main reasons for abandoning the “AP designation” - it allows teachers absolutely no creativity and results in a disservice to truly great teachers and their students. If you call a class an AP class then the curriculum devised by the AP company cannot be deviated from - so why bother going to an expensive school with better teachers if that teacher is forced to spoon feed you exactly the same curriculum offered at any school offering that class in the country? By offering honors level classes teachers at Lawrenceville and other schools can cover the AP material and also deviate form the course if students show a greater interest in a particular area or if they feel there is more to learn about a particular topic. Anyone who chooses a high school based solely on the number of AP courses offered is doing themselves a huge disservice. You do not need to be enrolled specifically in a class designated “AP” to take an AP test in any subject.
Very true! Thanks! @carymom
