how much to avg lawyers make?

Starting in a public sector job, around 40k.

It goes up from there though.

Some lawyers make 50,000 even 60,000 a year in bigger cities!

The mean annual wage for salaried lawyers is $110,590; the median (50th percentile) annual wage is $97,420, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics: http://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes231011.htm

These figures exclude self-employed attorneys.

A survey published by the California Bar Journal this month included the following information:

"The percentage [of California attorneys] earning more than $300,000 from the practice of law went from 4 percent to 7 percent, while the percentage of those bringing home less than $50,000 went from 16 percent to 25 percent. Another quarter makes between $100,000 and $149,000, and 24 percent make between $50,000 and $100,000."

if you go to a top 14 school and manage to get yourself in the middle of the pack at least, you start at 125k (by the time you get your JD, 135k) plus bonus.

You'll need to be making 130k a year if you get your JD from a top 14 school as your debt will be large, to say the least.

hmm, my impression is that generally law schools tend to give a lot of merit base scholarships.
put it this way. if you get Penn law with no money and NW law with money, go to NW. won't make a significant dent in your resume, and you come out with less debt.
or go to texas. no income taxes = more money in your pocket.
