I am hoping to graduate from UC Berkeleys Law School. How much would a lawyer make a year when I graduate?
I know a lot depends on the type of law I go into. But generically, how much would they make?

Thanks,

Entry-level salaries for lawyers vary widely. Projected average annual starting salaries for first-year law associates at small firms (up to 10 attorneys) range from $41,750 to $64,500, according to a 2005 report from Robert Half International Inc., a staffing firm based in Menlo Park, Calif. Individuals at small/midsize firms (10 to 35 attorneys) are projected to earn average annual starting salaries ranging from $47,500 to $67,000. At midsize firms (35 to 75 attorneys), they are expected to range from $61,500 to $85,750, and at large firms (more than 75 attorneys), they're from $86,500 to $114,500.

Thanks for the information!

TheCaliforniaLife, I actually got the brochure/catalog for Boalt Hall today and they list the median salary at $125,000 while the average is just under $100,000. Sounds pretty good, probably because its one of the better law schools.

Hope that helps,
Justin

Market rate for a large firm is $125k + bonus if you work in a large city. It is quite realistic to make that much if you go to a good school or top of your class at a lower school.

I'm sure Boalt students have no trouble getting those jobs. Average may be lower because many Boalt students choose to go into public interest or government, which pays significantly less.

Also, keep in mind that most Boalt graduates take jobs in the Bay Area, especially SF, and SF is one of the most expensive places to live in the country. Frankly speaking, a salary of 125k in SF ain't all that much.

Then again, the Bay Area is a nice place to live, which is why it is so expensive to be there.
