Lead America..

hey, i just received something in the mail about Lead America..they are summer and spring programs where u can explore fields such as law, medicine, forensic science, business, theater, politics, etc. and i was wondering if it was worth doing? it costs a lot of money tho, over $1500 for the 6 day program, and it goes up to $5000 for 3 week programs, and u can earn a few college credits too. i want to go into medicine, and i wanted 2 know if doing a program in medicine would help me get into a medical school?? (im a junior in high school).

i just got this too. I think its just another money making program. I go to a magnet school in nj and most of my friends that want to go into the medical field get internships at hospitals or they do research with biologists at rutgers. Personally, I wouldn't waste money but i don't doubt that it is fun.

yea... i got something like this last year 2, and i didnt do it cuz some of my friends told me it was a waste of money, and i thought it was a waste of money as well

idc if its fun or not, i wouldnt pay that much to have "fun"..lol

and if i dont do a program thru this, i was going to go visit some colleges anyway :)

thanks for ur advice karen :)

I was a great experiance, I went to a International Diplomacy one and i had the time of my life

But other than the fact it was alot of fun, You learn so much i brouhgt home 3 notebooks full of notes i took from the brilliant speakers, I learned so much about how diplomacy in the US and abroud works

It was an amazing experiance, i am acually doing it again this summer im going to the congressional one.

I had a friend who went with me and applied for Duke. He said the Lead america thing on his list of programs and clubs put him over hte top, They look at those programs alot.

Also make sure the ones you attend go along with what you want to major in or they dont matter. Like me i inted to major in Political Science so this helped me

O ya DONT DO THIS IF YOU WANT TO GO TO THE MEDICAL ONE IVE HEARD IT WAS TERRIBLE, but the two ive stated are both great

i really doubt that it could look THAT good considering you have to pay for this program, and it would be unfair to families who could not afford summer programs such as this. is it even merit based? if it is not merit based, than i really dont see how much it could help you

you get two college credits for it, not sure alot of colleges except them, but but the prices is alot to do with the transportation, renting of places, food, room

For that kind of money you may want to look at a summer college for high school students program offered by a college that interests you. For example, Syracuse offers such a program in a variety of areas of study. It is 6 weeks long and you get 6 college credits. And you get to experience the college and get to know some professors which at the very least gives you a taste of what it would be like to go there. There are loads of other colleges that offer similar programs.
