I am attending the lead america leadership conference for 6 days in washington D.C. this summer, and I was wondering if anyone is familiar with that program, and knows how much of an impact that has on college admissions?

little to no impact

i did it last year...waste of time, spend your money elsewhere.

it has no impact on college admissions

Agreed, last year I did Congressional Forum, the whole program was way overated, and i spent the whole time thinking that I could have run it better than some of the adults working it. Also i hated how they always told us, "you guys are the best and brightest blah blah blah ..." Stop trying to flatter us into liking you and your program. And when we got our one day on capitol hill I got invited to return to the capitol building that Thursday to have breakfest with Barack Obama (im from IL) but LeadAmerica wouldn't let me go.
That said, i learned a few things, pulled off a few great memories, and met someone who is one of my best friends now.
if you want to go becuase you think you will like it, then go. But it will not help at all with your college admissions.

Oh, my sister got invited to that. She's a freshman, and I'm pretty sure she's going. Otherwise my mother will disown her. You might meet her if you go. :)

I went to one last summer. I mostly hated it, as did my friends there, but towards the very very end we started to feel some sadness, but only about missing each other, not the program itself. The medicine one was...okay...but if I had to do it over again I would choose another way to spend my summer.

And I don't think it helps for admissions at all.

wow really?
My friend had an 85 GPA, 1050 math/verbal sat, very little e/c, and no community service, but did this program and wrote about it in the majority of her essay, and got accepted to Suny Buffalo which is an awesome school. I was expecting it to have more of an impact because you have to be recommended and its a national known program.

I was invited to that program, but decided chose to go to Cornell's summer program instead. Good luck at Lead America.

That's disappointg to here because I was hoping this would greatly help my chances.......I guess it was a waste of money......should have gone to Carnegie Mellon's program instead.
