I just learned I got the school's Presidential Bronze Award for community service today. It's not a big deal, but since I basically have no other awards I'd like it to go on the Common App. I knew I'd get the award (it goes to everyone with the proper number of hours) but I didn't put it on my application because I didn't want to lie. Now I've sent in my apps to my biggest reaches (Barnard and Tufts) because their deadlines were the 1st and the 3rd, respectively. Can/should I email admissions to sort of update my file with that? Would it help or would it just be annoying?

Yes, you can, but if you think you might have something else come up in the next month or so, I’d wait to update them until then. Sending more than one update isn’t usually a good idea unless it’s something extremely major.

I’d also question updating them just for an award that goes to a bunch of people who completed a certain number of hours given that you’ve already reported your ECs.

That makes sense, thank you. I know what you mean about the relatively unimpressive/redundant award, but I didn’t really report a lot of my community service on the Common App because I honestly wasn’t really sure how to do it. It’s a little scattered and I just sort of felt weird “selling out” my community service-- I always did it for personal reasons and didn’t want people to think I was just doing it “for college.” As you can see by my applying for the award, I obviously got over that bit of morality fast, but colleges still wouldn’t know about most of my volunteering.

I would wait until the midyear report and put that and anything else that comes up in there.

Only issue is Tufts (school I care most about) is EDII for me and so I think the midyear report would be on the late side. Decisions are out in “early February,” which is when the midyear reports are sent. So kind of confused, ugh.
