learning a new comp. language this summer

This fall, i will be majoring in computer science/business administration. Over the summer, i want to learn a new programming language (to get a little head start or at least get in the programming mind set). What would be the best language to learn (which language do cs majors use the most/ which one is the most popular)? Thanks.

csci 101 and 102 use c/c++ respectively, as far as I know. Later courses use more Java (unless you are in the games track) though a lot of electives use professors choice (usually one of c/c++/java, or other c-like languages). You can't go wrong with learning c/c++/java.

In terms of a less course-oriented choice I might recommend Python, which is one of my favorite languages. It is quite different from c/c++, both in syntax and application, and makes you think about programming a bit differently.

What language do the gaming majors use more of? Also, how come all the gaming classes have $200 lab fee and none of the other CS classes seem to have them?

If you're taking MATH 125 or 126 next fall, learn MATLAB. They gave student's projects in the language, only teaching the language for an hour the entire semester. I know the engineering school is on the math departments ass to stop giving these projects, but might prepare for them anyway.
