Does anyone know the advantages/ disadvantages to living in the business connections house?
No clue, but since this forum is so dang quiet I guess I’ll jump in…but fair warning: I’m a parent of an incoming freshman, so I am just as clueless as you about UConn since my eldest attends another school. At a recent visit, some current students suggested not being in a lc because there is not as much diversity in students in your dorm.
Of course, not choosing a lc means likely placement in dorms often referred to as “the jungle”…choosing a lc is the only way to select/know in advance where you will live as a freshman. I’ve heard alumni are some of the nicer dorms and are pretty central to campus - close to Gampel Pavilion and Student Union.
I can say that in general, the concept of a lc is sound and beneficial since there are events that would be of interest to you and greater ease of finding people to study with (since they will likely be taking same classes).
However, if choosing your own roommate (by whatever means - facebook, etc) is something you prefer over letting the school match you semi-randomly (yeah, there’s a survey but that’s only partial info), then you run the risk of the person you like not wanting to do the lc. If that person does not want the lc, you cannot do the lc. I did ask at the visit and they said you cannot pull in a person to your room if they do not want to do the lc. Of course, you could state that about yourself (that you want the lc) when trying to make your own match so that it helps eliminate that issue…
Hope that helps?
Don’t know about the business lc but my son is in the Engineering lc. It has been very good for him. Got to know people in his classes, made studying together easier
I didn’t live in an LC my freshmen year but everyone I know who lived in one seemed to enjoy it. Living in a LC provides incoming freshmen with an immediate group of friends who share similar academic and social interests. Especially for business majors, you will be living in an environment with people who are taking the same classes as you.
