I want to learn German and Greek(kinda random pair). What is a fast way to leanr them without a tutor? Any really good books seeing as how I'll be a beginner would be great.

Both? At the same time?

Wouldn't you confuse all the silly grammar rules if you did that?

Oh, and the internet hoards a wealth of resources Typing "learn german" into my URL box lead me to this: Learn German online - free Internet course

Thanks, I'll definately check that out, but I was planning on learning German first and then modern Greek lol

Rosetta Stone! Woo!

The few times that I've used rosetta stone it seemed like it would be easier if I had some basic knowledge of the language

Pimsleur is a great software package that can help you learn the basics of a foreign language. By the way, German is not terribly difficult to pick up (the vocabulary is extremely similar to English, but the grammar is very different than English).

Greek is tough lemme tell you. There are something like 200+ forms of each verb [my Latin teacher told me that, so I don't now if it's true, but he was fluent in Greek sooooo] and crazy rules and stuff. The Greek alphabet is NOT that hard to pick up on though.

use these series from Deutsche Welle for German:

they're fun and interactive.

if you want to learn a lot and don't mind repetition and monotony use these free courses for german and greek:

-note that some of the language used in these courses is dated

I would just like to say that as a Greek, and coming from a very ethnically-in-touch family, Greek school is not a myth, like one would think the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" is just ****ing around. It is a reality. I didn't finish Greek school, not because the language was tough, but because I as forced to learn it.

I'm learning Italian right now, and am taking Latin next year, and now I do kind of wish I learned Greek....
