<p>So my apartment lease starts and ends on 5/1, while I still live in the dorms until 5/14. What should I do for the last two weeks of school? move in my apartment early and ditch the dorms?</p>

<p>Ummm, I think the real question is where would you live next year during the first two weeks of May when your lease ends…</p>

<p>And, I dunno, you could just start moving your stuff to the new apartment. Doesn’t seem like much of a dilemma to me.</p>
<p>And even if you plan to just keep renewing the lease, what would you do during your senior year?</p>
<p>I think after the lease ends, I can just pay on a per-month basis so I would just pay one extra month after 5/1 next year.
The only thing I’m losing out on is being forced to pay for the two week overlap of dorms and the apartment. The rest of May is fine since I’m planning on doing session A and beyond anyways.</p>
<p>The reason I made this thread was just because I was curious whether anyone else also started their lease on 5/01. I know it’s not the most optimal beginning, but I’m doing session A, soo…</p>
<p>Did you try to deal with the landlord? Try to extend your lease until like 5/14 or 6/1 for next year so you have a place to live during finals.</p>
<p>If you know for sure that you can rent by the month after your lease ends, then you should be fine 
But watch out because some landlords will try to trick you. My landlord told us that we’ll be able to rent by the month after our year-long lease ends, but it turned out that the only way to renew the lease was to sign another year-long lease.</p>
<p>I had a similar problem but on a smaller scale, I was a week early on my lease. I got the land lord to meet me half way and saved 3.5 days of rent. If you can’t I would just gradually move all of your stuff over there for the 2 weeks and make it a pleasant transition.</p>
<p>I realize now that I should have negotiated more before I signed my lease… All I did was ask because I was scared to lose the apartment to the next guy. Is it too late to ask for an extension or modification of the lease if I already signed it?</p>
