"Least Prestigious" Ivy League School?

Just spoke to a Harvard freshman home for the summer–he says Brown is the lowest prestige Ivy League school. Thoughts? Thanks

cornell is,for sure

who cares? prestige isn’t the same as student happiness, academic quality, or personal fit.

if you care about prestige enough to discourage you from attending any school, then you are ignoring qualities of schools that are actually important…

simple answer.

he’s a harvard student.

what exactly would you expect?

If you care about what that moron says, you should have your acceptance rescinded.

Well, it may be true that Brown has the least prestige… but in the way that UC San Diego is less prestigious than UCLA, UCSD is an equally good school, etc.

Prestige is meaningless unless your goal is to accrue the empty and unfounded respect of others. Prestige is based on the opinions of outsiders; what really matters is your opinion, not some dude’s.

(BTW Yale>Harvard. :P)

eh. For a kid from the Left Coast, prestige is actually sometimes a turn off. I didn’t even bother applying to Harvard, Yale and Princeton, because of their stuck-up, snobbish stereotypes. I realize that may not be an accurate portrayal, but I tend to be down-to-earth, and Brown seems ot be too. If that means Brown loses some prestige, in the way that Mother Theresa is less prestigious than the President of the US, then so be it. I’ll down down-to-earth qualities over prestige anyday. And Brown IS well-known for its alumni going out into the world and actually doing. Thats more important than prestige anyday.

You should always take into account the mental acuity of the speaker. If the person speaking actually attended Harvard, I seriously doubt they would be delusional enough to dismiss Brown as “lesser than.” On the other hand, they might just lack verbal pragmatics.

Grads need to realize that their character counts; if a graduate of an Ivy has poor character or poor emotional control, it reflects poorly on their school, i.e. if that person attended Harvard and they have no social acumen, then maybe I would look at anything but Harvard.

By the same token, I know several physicians in my locale that attended Brown and they are fine people.

Good Luck.

Brevity is the ultimate sophistication… “author unknown”

who cares really? at least you can go about telling others “I GO/WENT TO AN IVY! YEAH!”
most of us cant even do that.
