Leaving UC Berkeley with 54 credits

I am currently a first-year student at UC Berkeley. I took cc courses through high school, so after this semester, I will have 54. I am pretty miserable here and would like to transfer somewhere closer to home (Southern California-- ideally UCLA). Is it a bad idea to leave after this semester, go to a community college, and then transfer? Would this be especially bad because I am pre-med? Thanks! Oh-- last semester, my GPA was 3.19 and im not sure how this semester will be. I have a 4.0 GPA from the 7 cc classes.

If you leave and you want to be considered a CCC transfer with CCC priority you will need the latest 30 units to be from CCC. Otherwise you will not receive CCC priority. This would place you at 84 units. I believe there is an 80 unit cap for people who didn’t attend only a CCC. (I may be incorrect on the details about this and how strict this is enforced.) Also, what is your overall GPA (CCC and UCB)? Calculate what your projected GPA (your CCC and UCB classes) will be after you take an additional 30 or so units at a CCC (which I’m assuming you’ll get A’s in all the CCC classes you take.) Then post what that GPA is. You need to make sure that, if you follow through with your decision, your GPA will be competitive for UCLA. Otherwise I would suggest you explore alternative major options as it is definitely not too late to change majors.

And, I’m sorry you’re miserable at UCB. :(
