Does GW give preferential treatment to legacy applicants?
If so, what constitutes a legacy there?

Legacy helps, but it is more of a tiebreaker. They are not going to accept someone significatly below GW's averages just because they are a legacy, unless their parents are very involved with the school. If one of your parents graduated from GW you are a legacy, but I believe grandparents may help somewhat as well.

I know someone who got into GW but didn't get into BU, Syracuse, or American.

His mom is a GW alumni...
