Today I received a letter giving me more information about Cornell, since I am a legacy applicant. "We do not want to be guilty of assuming that a family connection automatically translates into perfect knowledge of Cornell." Why would Cornell send me information that is easily accessible online, like the Class of 2012 Profile? Am I reading too closely into this? Seems like a waste of postage to me.

it is a standard letter that goes out to applicants that the university knows are legacies.

Memphismom…are you sure of this or is it setting us up for a rejection next week?

I got the same letter, but mine arrived around 2-3 weeks ago. I wasn’t sure what to make of it either…

lol Kalodie, i dont think that they would want to send you more info about the school if they had intentions to reject you, that would just seem cruel.

There is nothing to read into it. It’s a form letter they send out to all legacies. A lot of other schools do it too. Even if they reject you, they would want your parents to continue to give in the future, so it doesn’t hurt for them to make you feel special.

Just because someone got it earlier doesn’t mean anything either. Cornell is a big school, they send out letters in batches. The only time it means anything is when/if they ask for additional information (interim grades).

I am a legacy (ED applicant) and I DIDN’T get a letter. What could that mean???

That definitely means you were rejected then.

I’m just wondering what it means if they ask for quarter grades. I started another thread about it awhile back when i received such a request. Oldfort-you make it seem like it definitely means something.

Yes, it means they are interested. Sometimes they’ll also call your GC for additional information. You maybe on the borderline and with good interim could just push you over. Come back next week to let us know if you got in.

Thanks, that certainly gets my hopes up. Fortunately, this was one of my best quarters ever–I will certainly let you know the result.
