Posting this for my brother who is a junior:
Hi guys,
I apologize if this question has been asked before but I was wondering if anyone could tell me how much weightage does Yale give to legacies?
My mum and her father both attended Yale, so I was just curious. I'll be applying Early in the coming fall. Love Yale!!
Thanks in advance!! :)

Do a search in this forum. There have been lots of threads about legacy status.

It appears that Yale gives some weight to legacies, but it’s not clear how much. The pool of legacy applicants is reputedly more qualified than the overall pool. It’s not really in Yale’s interest to say exactly how much difference it makes.

@Hunt. That’s understandable, I guess. We just wanted to figure out how much Yale likes legacies as compared to let’s say, Harvard.
My cousin, who is a legacy at Yale too, was rejected from Yale but was accepted at Harvard(Legacy there too) So obviously he was well qualified to be accepted at Yale too, but wasn’t despite being a Legacy. But I guess, that’s how admissions work nowadays.
Thanks for the reply!
