My grandfather (undergrad/grad), my mother (undergrad), and my father (grad) went to Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. If I am an otherwise qualified applicant, how much would the legacy improve my chances at Cornell if I am applying ED? I understand there’s no definitive answer to this, but I’ve heard conflicting accounts about the degree of advantage it brings.
It helps, but it doesn’t guarantee admission. It only helps if you apply ED.
Agreed. It is most helpful if you apply ED. “Use it or lose it.” Of course, do not apply ED if Cornell is not your first choice. I think with your multiple ties to Cornell, you could write a compelling Why Cornell essay.
Definitely better to do ED, but I got in regular as a legacy applicant with otherwise credible stats for engineering.
