I’m planning to apply to Penn this coming fall ED because it is my dream school. Unfortunately, as I’m sure you know, it is super competitive, but fortunately for me I have a grandfather that went there. I know that Penn does count grandparents as legacies, but my thing is that I am not technically related to him by blood. It’s not like one of those things where i just call him grandpa though. He is married to my blood grandma and has been for 30 years. My whole life he has been just as much of a grandparent to me as she has and we have a very close relationship. Of course, the admissions officers won’t know the details of that so I was just wondering how they generally accomodate “step-grandparents.” Do I still get the admissions boost?
I’m pretty certain you would. Especially if your grandpa donates a lot of money lol
Your grandma is not your step grandma.
Would having an uncle or a cousin be considered legacy and help. My uncle got his MBA from Wharton.
No.
Your chances would be boosted…but that doesn’t excuse you from having a stellar application. Many legacies still get rejected.
