A friend of mine wants to write on his application that he is a legacy from princeton when he really isnt. he could get in a lot of trouble. does anyone know if they check records from past to see if parent attended college? he is a student with a legit chance to get in, but Im trying to tell him its a bad idea. what do i do?

The obvious answer: Don't lie to colleges. A legacy is not something that you can fake your way into. Also, doesn't the application ask you to name your legacy relatives? How will your friend get around that?

Yes, they check legacies. It's really simple to do; the data is all stored on the school's own computers.

That's one of the worst lies you can come up with. Of course they'll realize X person didn't go to Y university. They check and keep records of that sort of thing.

What you can do is find a friend who has ethics. Otherwise, there's nothing you can do unless you want to say, "Told you so," when he gets his rejection.
