Hi everyone,
I wanted to ask about high school honours programs/ societies. Most oof the ones I’ve looked at seem to be scams or pointless. I am a freshman at a prestigious boarding school, have a 3.89 GPA, and 1780 SAT score (I know it is kinda low). I love public speaking, volunteering, coding, and filmmaking. Any suggestions? Do they make you stand out in any way?
Thank you in advance for your help!
National Honor Society is the big one, but you have to be a Junior to join. Idk about any other ones
Yeah NHS and I know there are some Intrest specific ones to like National Art Honors Society and National Dancw Honors Society. While it does show academic and character strength to some extent, a lot of people are in NHS so just being a member alone doesn’t really make you stand out. It’s more what you do within it and your involvement.
I would avoid general honor societies (unless it’s something like NHS that has a chapter at your school), since they basically just accept anyone who will send money.
If you want to win a prestigious award, you should try for awards in specific areas where you’re talented.
