Email this afternoon around 1pm. Opening of letter. She applied early December
Congratulations! On behalf of the Committee on Admission, I am excited to offer you admission to the Lehigh University Class of 2022! You were selected from an incredibly competitive pool of more than 15,600 applicants. More so, you are among a small cohort of students chosen to receive advanced notification of our decision and an invitation to Lehigh’s Diversity Life Weekend.
I posted on behalf of my wife since she is at work.
@Mara74 Was the portal updated as well? I am not going to be home next week and I hope i dont have to get the news from my parents over the phone. Also was she RD or deffered ED?
is she an RD applicant @Mara74 @“Momof3Girls!” !
Congrats @momof3girls that’s great!! The number of applicants last year was 13,871 according to Lehigh’s website, so that’s a gain of 1,729 applicants in one year. Seems to be the trend this year! I really think more kids are just applying to more schools. It will be interesting to watch yield. Waitlists will be more utilized this year than previous years is my prediction!
What exactly is Diversity Life Weekend? Who are selected. Only Minorities? Only top students? Just curious
@parentFL Diversity Life Weekend can include whatever diverse groups Lehigh admissions is targetting to improve campus diversity. It can vary from year to year. It may more traditional groups like Blacks, and Latinos, LGBT, or women. It may also be expanded to include Asian students or geographic diversity if those are priorities.
Historically, Lehigh was primarily an engineering school with mostly white male students from PA, NJ, and NY (They were actually called the Engineers until about 25 years ago when the became the Mountain Hawks). They have come a long way from where they were. Now they are about 45% women and have steadily been increasing their numbers of Black, Latino, Asian, and LGBT students.
Lehigh is also working to improve its geographic diversity from a 3-state school to a national school. It now enrolls students from about 40 states, and I have heard that they have now opened a California office to recruit more actively in California. I also know that they have been recruiting students more actively in Illinois/Chicago area. The geographic diversity is definitely improving and the percent of home state PA students is now only a little over 20%.
All of these efforts take time and money though because the quality of the student body is similar to the University of Michigan’s, and students of that quality do not grow on trees.
It states only selected admitted students. I am unsure how they pick. I am just so thankful. She received 70 percent covered scholarship as well.
Regular decision and no it is not on her portal yet. Just several emails
Still no email…
@Mara74 can you please share your D’s stats? thanks
Congrats to your D’s acceptance @Mara74!!
I was sooo hoping my son would be invited to the Diversity Weekend…he is a legacy candidate and LU is a reach school for him per his stats. He wants to attend more than anything and is really interested in their 5 year program, so he could obtain his Master’s in Education. He has not received any of these emails, and I really don’t want to fear the worst…so, we will keep our spirits up during this interminable wait with our fingers crossed!!!
Question about Diversity Weekend: can your parent attend with you? I got invited, but I wasn’t sure how all the travel expenses and situations would work since I have never traveled anywhere by myself. Also, if you go to the event, does that you that you’re accepting their admission decision? I still have some admission decisions I’m waiting for at other universities though at this point, I am quite positive that I will be attending Lehigh for the fall of 2018. Thanks!
Does anyone know when LeHigh is releasing their RD? Is there another thread for that?
I heard that last year the decisions came out around 03/24?
So I was deferred from ED 1 and recently my portal, under “Admissions Decisions” has changed. When decisions were released to ED II students it said something their decisions, but now it’s back to my original deferral message, is this positive or negative?
@killerbee545 I just logged onto my portal and got the same thing. Chances are it doesn’t mean anyhting and it just a mistake by admissions.
@collegelehigh do you know what the percentage of deferred students are accepted at Lehigh under RD?
@killerbee545 to be honest I have no idea but i like to think theres a reason that we were deferred and not flat out rejected. I know that they had a much larger ED pool than they have had in the past so they accepted a much lower percentage. I guess we will just have to wait and see though.
Im holding onto all hope I can that I wind up getting accepted RD, I was deferred ED but my GPA went up over 3 points with my midyear grades, and I withdrew my application for financial aid, so I’m hoping that it gives me the boost I need to go on and be accepted, I really wish they would release stats about deferred ED students so we could get a better grasp on the situation
