I was wondering how Lehigh's engineering school compares to MIT, Caltech, Gtech and other great engineering schools out there in terms of prestige, academics, and job opportunities after graduation (focusing on biomedical engineering).

It's supposed to be a really good one. Maybe not on the same level as MIT or Caltech, but pretty close. And I've heard that the alumni network is great.

According to USNews 2008 Engineering rankings:

Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs (At schools whose highest degree is a doctorate)
37. Lehigh University (PA) 3.3

Undergraduate engineering specialties:
Mechanical
(At schools whose highest degree is a doctorate)
22 Lehigh University (PA)

Nearby Lafayette College is ranked 12th in Engineering for non-doctoral schools, I believe.

I received my undergrad degree from Lehigh in 1978 and a masters from MIT in 1980....true, that was while ago. But I was stunned at how much harder Lehigh was at the time. I was a TA at MIT, so I was pretty familiar with what was expected of the students in their assignments...and lots of stuff that was handed in (and I graded) would not have been acceptable at Lehigh. Lehigh offers a very rigourous engineering education, and, IMO, is underanked.
