Lehigh or Syracuse?

Not exactly the typical two different choices to choose from but whatever.

Hypothetically, if I were to get into both business schools when March/April comes around, I'd be in a rut since I wouldn't know where to go.

Which is better in business (particularly marketing or econ?)?

I loved both schools' campuses.

Opinions on which is better? (Athletics/School Spirit, Academics, Overall School Vibe)

Syracuse has a significantly stronger sports scene, and is better known in the business world.

As for overall vibe, both are party schools. The main difference in vibe is that Syracuse outskirts a fairly large city, while Lehigh is more small town.

Lehigh Univ.'s undergraduate business program is ranked #83 by USNews and #20 by BusinessWeek. Syracuse is not ranked in BusinessWeek's top 50 and is tied with 7 other schools at #41 by USNews. Lehigh Univ. is overwhelmingly male (64%) while Syracuse is majority (54%) female. Lots of fraternity life at Lehigh where alcohol flows freely most nights. Top marketing programs are Cornell, Virginia, Miami, Berkeley, U.San Diego, Univ. of Richmond, Washington Univ., GWU, SMU & William& Mary according to BusinessWeek. Top economics programs are Northwestern & Chicago for undergraduates. Business classes are small, not overcrowded, at Lehigh. Syracuse is better for an undecided or wavering student as it offers a wide variety of majors.

Lehigh is the better school both generally and for business.

Lehigh University

Lehigh is a much stronger school academically than Syracuse

Syracuse has a better reputation, is much better know, and has a wider alumni network than Lehigh. In regards to athletics, SU is also better.

I always have regarded Lehigh as a much stronger school academically and would have thought its USNWR would be higher than Syracuse.

According to PR, Lehigh has median SAT of 1305, 90% in top 10% of hs class and 39% acceptance rate, while Syracuse has median SAT of 1225, 45% in top 10% of hs class and 51% acceptance rate.

Syracuse is also a much bigger school, imagine the number of apps they'd have to receive to get numbers like Lehigh's

I'd pick Syracuse for MSMDAD's reasons

I echo the posts of gomestar and MSMDad - although Lehigh has a higher SAT median, Syracuse has much better name recognition. Both are fine business schools, but when it comes down to it, outside of the Northeast, very few people have even heard of Lehigh.

that is true with the numbers

The only problem I have over Syracuse is that it is a little above average in size, whereas Lehigh is small-ish, and I prefer smaller schools over bigger ones

5,000 and 11,000 aren't really all that different - both are considered medium sized schools.

Go with your gut. Although Syracuse does have better recognition, you'd be fine at either. Pick the one you'll be happiest at.

I hadn't heard of Lehigh until my friend applied there ... and I'm from the northeast.

5,000 and 11,000 is a bit of a difference, though I would certainly consider both to be medium schools. I don't think you'd have any few or more friends at any school. Look at it this way, the size difference multiplies when you consider alumni ... over a period of 25 years, Syracuse will have roughly 40,000 more alumni than Lehigh. Use this to your advantage.

LEHIGH...is a much better school

Lehigh is a little better, but the location sucks. Syracuse is much nicer city, if that matters to you.

Lehigh is much better. Syracuse gets constant lake effect snows. Unless you're doing Communications. go to Lehigh.

you're going to buy the exact same jacket and boots for Lehigh as you do for Syracuse.

Syracuse certainly gets the snow, but it's all plowed away before any class begins. Besides, an absolutely massive expansion is being added to the already massive mall not far from the SU campus in Syracuse.

Six year graduation rates Lehigh 85.2%, Syracuse 78.9%, but will you ever see the sun at either school? How about a third option UNC (#15) or Wake Forest (#17) both higher ranked than Lehigh (#20) or Syracuse (not in top 50) in the 2007 Business Week's undergraduate business rankings.

well UNC i know i won't get into esp since I'm out of state.

I was considering Wake Forest, but I'd never really looked into that school before plus I don't know if a 1320/1970 is even good enough to maybe even get into there.

lol I'm from the northeast so I guess I'm used to the cold even though it can be a pain in the neck.

are there any suggestions for cheaper business schools?

syracuse and lehigh's sticker prices are like baffling. so....i need to find schools where i could get decent/guaranteed financial aid even if it was private. I doubt i'd get much money from lehigh if i even got in. Syracuse I think i might get a decent amount, but are there any cheaper quality business schools for marketing/econ? (that i could actually get in?)
