Length of essay

airtranchic, your stats aren't wonderful, particularly scores, but that's not the only thing that counts, so don't stress out toooo much.

Jono, does it make a difference that my sister is a graduate student at Columbia University School of Social Work? Will they give me a few points for that? I sure hope so. If I surprisingly do get in, it is def. my essay.

the sister deal will likely not be a big deal for them. . . . but has your sister brought you around Columbia and made you excited about the school? you might want to mention that in your interview if so. . . .

i could mention that...if i got an interview.

A submitted two essays, both a little over 500 words. The same essays got me my Yale deferral, so the word count might be ok for Columbia. (Also submitted a supplement, and a list of all the books I've read in the past 12 months. Either they'll be extremely impressed or extremely annoyed with all my extra crap.)

Quick question: Is it true that they may grant interviews without even opening your file?

Yeah, my interviewer only had my part I of the app. He didn't have my ECs, grades, and etc.
