On the rice supplement,
"With the understanding that the choice of academic school you indicated is not binding, explain why you are applying to that particular school of study."

how long should this one be? they don't have a word limit on the commonapp website.

I was just on here looking for the same thing. I don't think it needs to be too long but I really have no idea and would like to find out.

I agree with sffhgoalie. Just think of it as a short answer. Since the other short answer question (What motivated you to apply to Rice University?) limited you to 200 words, I would say that 200 words or fewer would be good for this question (probably fewer since Rice didn't ask you to be specific, i.e. to elaborate). But if it takes you more than 200 words to answer the question, then by all means, do so. In my opinion though, more than 200 words on a question like this would most likely mean that you're rambling.
Just my two cents for CC!

Id say - enough to sufficiently answer the question. Dont write a 2 liner, but dont BS just to make it look big

Use 200 as a rough guideline, but if you have 300 words that make sense and are completely necessary - I would say thats no issue

Like my Common app was 1100 words instead of 500 and I got in....
