anybody has any idea what the length of the answer to the "make difference" question should be?

I too had the same question as you... However, I found it interesting that it was not specified as an essay which to me seemed as though it did not need to be that long... personally mine is a page long or there abouts but I am also curious to see if anyone has a more concrete idea of how long it must be.

I just counted my son's and it was a little under 600 words. Hmm, I wonder if that is too long. What did you guys write about?

well considering the minimum for the common ap essay was 250 words id say 600 is probably on the longer side. I wouldnt know if it was too long but what my english teachers always tell me is include only what you think they NEED to know, no more, no less. Concise is often better then long and drawn out atleast that has been my expirience. I think 400 or 500 is probably the safest bet, less or more are both a little more risky.

Personally I wrote about my expirience with starting and gaining support for a Model UN club at our school that had collapsed a couple years before and how i am even trying to get it turned into a class so that it doesnt run the risk of collapsing again.

My son wrote about how he spends time with a little neighbor boy who is 6 and idolizes him. He related it to when he was a young child and how he remembers older boys that showed him attention. He talked about big differences you can make and small ones you can make, one person at a time and how you can impact peoples lives with kindness, no matter how small.

His common app essay focused on volunteer work he does with disabled kids so he really could not write about that again.
