Lenovo T400 vs. MacBook Pro 13 in.

Very funny. Get something you want for free - an ipod touch - and that’s merely clever marketing.

I’d ask the question again: what motivates Windows fan nuts to criticize what is merely another computer choice? But this is an advice forum for college students, not slashdot.

Windows fan nuts

I hate Windows.

I think I was being quite objective there. I admitted it was an ingenious marketing technique because they earn more money off accessories and they increase their brand power. If you like, you can just say the itouch is a $200 discount off a macbook since that’s the resale value of a new one.

they asked for advice, I gave my honest opinion. you can offer your opinion if you want.

My question is why are you selling Windows so hard? These are computers. That’s all. You seem to have a problem with Apple that extends past the fact that they make machines.

so, no opinion, just had an issue with me?

I wasn’t “selling” Windows. in fact, Windows vs Apple is not the question. there is one Apple manufacturer, and tons of PC manufacturers. I just wanted to say that there are much cheaper alternatives to Macs. in the past, I’ve had issues with Gateway’s reliability, and I like Dell’s value but not that they use slightly cheaper parts than everyone else. I think Sony laptops are generally overpriced, and I’ve had very good experiences with ThinkPads (even before Lenovo bought them from IBM). no comment on hp as of yet.

if you ask me reflect, I would say my “problem” with Apple is that they sell a better “product” but not necessarily a better laptop, or mp3. their quality is good, but there are others that are just as good. they, however, have made their brand so powerful (stylish, popular, even user-friendly, etc.) that, for many people, the idea of buying Apple is greater than the motivation to save a couple bucks.

so, back on topic.
Macs: good. not the best “value”
Lenovo ThinkPad: good. reliable. my recommendation

i’m bias against macs because too many computer illiterate people think they’re too cool for windows after seeing those mac vs pc ads. that was a low blow.

Just ask them how to right click. Seriously, though, OP, Lenovo is a great brand, and thinkpads are amazing. MBP are alright too. I agree with zephy with the idea that there are cheaper alternatives.

Mac is a shining plaque that says “I know nothing about computers” or “I’m old and I can’t be bothered with basic computer maintenance.”

Unless you run Linux on it. Then you earn back your computer skillz card.

Thanks a lot for all the info and input. But I finally decided on the MacBook Pro 13’'. Basically it came with all the features I wanted, versus Lenovo I had to add the battery life and DVD burner; both prices came in very close, (apple counting the promos, lenovo with ecoupon) around $900. I went for the user friendly and less virus aspect of Mac (at least that’s what my research concludes). However, my cousin is getting a Lenovo x200,so I guess we can then compare them afterwards. Thanks for all the info, appreciate it.

Funny… I’ve never gotten a virus in my many years of using Windows. I use this program called Common Sense.

too many lolz

Yea i got nothin against macs but whenever “mac vs. PC” is brought up the argument i hear every single time is how macs dont get viruses and dont crash, lol that might be true but i been usin a PC all my life and never got a single virus [ not lying either ] i mean it did crash very rarely [ i dont mean crash as in hard drive completely wiped out ] but like it just froze and i had to restart lol

Yeah, the whole virus thing is way overblown. I never run any anti-virus software and I’ve never had any problems with viruses.
