are there a lot of lesbians at Wellesley??? about how much % of the student body?

A mom asked that question to an current student because she was afraid her daughter would be raped, lol. Wow. So I was able to gather my estimated statistical info from the conversation.

It's hard to answer that because some students may be ambiguous or uncertain about their sexual preferences, some may be bi, or so on. But I'd say it's a little higher than 10% if not to lower than 20%.

I got this question quite often when I was student and it usually came from one of two sources: a) the scared/paranoid parent or prospective student who has this image of lesbians traveling in marauding bands who defile poor, innocent first years or think that lesbianism is "catching" or b) the out/questioning student who wants to know how accepting Wellesley's community is.

To people who fall under or identify more with group A:
No. No to the marauding bands of lesbian part, and no to it being "catching" part.

To those who are from group B:
On the whole, I found Wellesley to be a very accepting community, regardless of your sexual orientation, your view, your hometown, your major, your special talent, etc. etc. Not to say that we're some sort of idealistic utopia where no one disagrees or there isn't the occasional bickering/spat on Community or one group of students claiming they're offended by another, etc. Be who you are, and you'll be fine.

As to how many lesbians on campus, there is no way to get any accurate number/percentage because students are not required to answer some sort of survey where they check off what their sexual activities/preferences are. All estimates will purely be based on anecdotal evidence, and my bet is that depending on who you ask, those numbers would vary widely. Yes there are lesbians on campus, yes you will see them, no they're not anywhere near the majority of the campus, and yes we like having them be a part of our community -- they're a fun bunch and host one of the best annual parties on campus.

LOL HAHA
I go to Wellesley College adn I'm straight,
but there is no need to worry about homosexuality.
