Less and less males in college...don't let it happen guys!

I for one am very happy to see lots of ladies on campus. However an alarming trend has insidiously pervaded our universities across the United States – less and less males are going to college.

I myself live in California and I have been doing lots of research on the UC’s. And I see a consistent trend where there roughly 30% more female undergraduates than males. Now, a part of me goes “Boo-yah!”. The other part of me is a bit concerned.

I have been noticing over the years that our society seems to be promoting females in education but have been neglecting males and I think these alarming enrollment rates indicate the effect it is having.

In a recent interview, the First Lady, Laura Bush, noted that she wants to make attention to our nations young males a focus of her work over the next four years. Let’s hope she follows through on this.

So guys, if you have a buddy that is slacking, or a brother that is not sure about going to college, do what it takes to get them into college. High school diplomas aren’t going to cut it anymore. Those who have a college education will have the employment edge, and right now the trend is favoring females.

This isn’t a us versus them kind of post, but it is important information. We have neglected our males and now we are suffering the repercussions.

yes, too true! Males are definitely being neglected and have been for some time...alarming. Especially white males age 18-35 in the upper middle class on up...who's looking out for these poor lost souls, huh? who?

Ah, the cry of the empowered female. Your sarcasm is duly noted.

If the numbers were reversed, women would be crying holy hell and demanding reform from a sexist education system. Females want their cake and they want to eat it too...unfortunately the world is accommodating them.

It is replies like yours that perpetuate the problem.

Go 'way! No girls allowed!

Actually, this may cause for an "affirmitive action" for males and creates a "favorable" male to female ration on campus. From where I'm standing... let it burn!

Oh did I need to announce that I'm male or was it apparent? ;)

I'm sure there's some bias, at least with all the male adcoms. Some perverted men only choose women (Rupert Gee on David Letterman, for example), and others only choose men (Queer Eye). Women are definitely much more objective.
