less selective boarding schools in us

actually i have given it a lot of thought and i would like to know the names of 5-10 boarding schools which are not as selective as exeter, andover, lawrenceville etc..type of schools , but are still quite good and offer full financial aid.

I would say Cranbrook, Peddie, Stevenson, Berkshire, Loomis, Mercesburg,… These are good schools. Although I don’t know if they would offer full f.a or not

The BS’s with the largest endowments, that can best afford giving out generous FA, are also the most selective ones. You are probably chasing a pipe dream in seeking an American BS that will give FULL financial aid to an int’l student if you don’t have some truly extraordinary circumstance-- being smart, enthusiastic and nice is probably not enough. You might, however, get partial FA.

See my post #4 in this other thread:

Another vote for Peddie. They have the resources to offer full aid to anybody. Though I am not sure what their policy is for aid to international students, I bet that they would like to boost matriculation of qualified applicants from India. Check out their web site for details.
I second GMT’s point. Full aid for an international student is rare; either the school has a history of this, like an endowed scholarship, or there are special aspect’s to the applicant’s background. I vaguely remember that St. Paul’s might have a more liberal policy or a program for some international students, but as you understand, the competition gets fierce among those “name” schools. Sorry I don’t have more specifics. Another poster may, or you can do the homework yourself.

Kent, Westy, NMH, Williston, Taft

a very big thanks to all those who replied , especially 2 gmtplus7

Look to hidden gems thread and my personal list:

Concord: one of my favorite schools that I visited, not mentioned often
Peddie: dont know much about it but heard it is a really good school
Loomis Chaffee: might not be good as other TSAOs but they have a beautiful campus. Heck, I could tell even when they had a very rainy day.
Hill: I don’t know much but have heard great things
Kent: ^
St. Georges: Right Near the ocean and is part of isl, very competative sports league

I was about to go say Cate/Thacher, but it loos like it’s going to be about 18%/13% respectively. They’re not HADES, so perhaps, despite the low rates, they will have slightly less competitive applicant pools? Possibly?

Admission to Thacher is 13%. I believe that only Deerfield is as difficult. The fact that Thacher and Cate are not HADES (thankfully) doesn’t make them somehow less selective.
