Hi! I’ve never used this website before so I don’t really know what I’m doing, but I’ll tell you my question.
I’m in 9th grade planning to apply to boarding schools - fall 2022 for 10th grade. I would be an international student, as I am from Chile.
My lists of the most elite that I would like to apply are these:
Exeter
Andover
Middlesex
Hotchkiss
Schools I’m unsure if they are elite or not:
Hun School of Princeton
Mercersburg
George School
Westtown
Winchendon
Episcopal
Bishop college (In Canada)
I would need a significant amount of FA or a full ride. Since the websites of these give pretty generic answers, does anyone know what the chances of receiving what I need is, and if there is any chance at all? Thank you if you take the time to respond <3
PS. please be truthful, I don’t want to waste money on admissions if there is no chance I could attend.
Well, it’s pretty hard to chance you when you don’t give much information regarding your academics or extracurriculars.
Hello, I didn’t really know how to words this correctly I think.
I was more wondering if these were schools that are known for giving little or a lot of FA to international students, shouldn’t have put the do I have a chance since apparently there’s a chance me section in this website, sorry!
Many of the schools on your list reserve aid for domestic applicants, however, there are certainly exceptions. Odds of admission for an international fin aid student are tough, but not impossible. I have a friend (US citizen) who attends Bishop College and receives some aid. It is also dependent on how much aid you need. If you read though posts from the last few years of admission results, you may be able to better gauge the schools that will give international aid (there are a few examples that come to mind from the past cycle where applicants were told that aid is reserved entirely to domestic applicants). I don’t mean to discourage you, but it’s an unfortunate reality that a lot of great applicants run into.
Andover is the only one that I know of on your list that is need-blind, and I’m pretty sure Exeter offers some aid to exceptional international students as well. I’m not 100% sure for any of the others.
Hi, Do you mind telling me the schools you know only have fin aid for domestic applicants?
Thank you!
Also, don’t worry I know you don’t mean to be discouraging. It’s just a sad reality for fin aid students like myself.
international FA rules are always changing. I recommend you email the admissions team at each school and ask on their policies. That will give you the most updated and accurate answer.
Hi, thank you for your answer. I did email the schools for that, but most of them just linked me to their FA section on their website, that’s why I’m trying to get more personal answers through here.
