Let's all be completely honest and practical.

I imagine that GCs may not have copies of rescinded letters because the letters probably are sent after final grades and gradation. Since the students have graduated, the colleges probably don't bother to send GCs copies of the rescinded admission letters. The colleges probably send warnings to the GCs so the GCs can add to the more pressure on the students to straighten up.

Wow. Talk about being practical. That's a completely rational response, Northstar mom. I love the veteran posters. They make so much sense.

Here's my stats for the most recent senior term:

Average: 84% for 7 academic courses
The lowest mark I got was an ugly 76% in Literature last December (and I dropped that course second term)
My usual grade average was around 89-90%

According to the above stats, will my early decision get rescinded??
(by the way, the school is JHU)

BUMP Anyone?

you should be fine

Um, your usual grade average of 89-90 seems incredibly low to get into JHU the first time around. Have you gotten your decision yet?

Yeah, but if you do manage to get in, I highly doubt it will be rescinded.

90% an INCREDIBLY low mark for JHU? Really? I hate to say this but I've been working so hard in the past four years just for this mark. Goodness, your school must have huge grade inflations then...

Anyway, I'm from Canada, and Canadian schools tend to have grade deflations all the time. Canadian highschool courses have proven to be more challenging than the Advanced Placement courses in the America as well.

Yes, I did get into under the ED plan, thanks to JHU's holistic approach. :)

Boo Canada, private health care rules

Oh, well, yeah, if you're from another country, it's perfectly understandable that grading systems will be different. I didn't know you were in Canada. Yes, my high school in particular does have a lot of grade inflation (you needed at least a 97 average to be in the top 5%, and a 90 or 91 would maybe rank you in the top half) but it's an American thing in general. At any American high school, just barely getting an A minus is not going to be good enough to get into a school of the caliber of JHU. Really, I think that's just about the national average for college-bound students, or something similar to that. In Canada, I can understand, maybe you have worked incredibly hard for that grade. If you got that somewhere in the States, it would be a reflection of absolutely minimal effort and would not be at all impressive to an adcom. In that case, the dip in grades seems really minimal. Don't worry about it! You'll be fine.

Let's just say...the United States of America is the only western developed nation that still does not provide affordable universal healthcare for her citizens. Oh yeah, being unable to pay personal medical bills is also the biggest cause of bankruptcy in the United States as well.

thanks for the evaluation, eponymous! really appreciate it.

Haha, yeah. True. But there is something kinda funky about Americans, it's not like there's been no opportunity to introduce universal affordable healthcare, but a very large portion of American citizens are strongly opposed to this happening. American psychology is completely mind-boggling sometimes. I think it feels too much like communism to most Americans. How they make that link, I don't know, but there is a tremendous uproar anytime a politician even whispers the words. Not even, anytime a politician appears like they might possibly be forming the shape of those poison words on their lips.

Now I've never understood why anyone would feel this way. But many Americans do. We aren't big on helping our neighbors out financially. And unless there's a widespread change in the way Americans think, universal healthcare is going to be one of those comedically absurd fantasies you hear about from time to time.

Yeah, but I still don't understand why most Americans are willing to miss out on such a GOOD deal (it's free, doesn't cost you anything...). Yes, I understand that "communist" link, but I personally don't think that people should be so sensitive about past ideological differences, especially in this new era of openness and international cooperation. I mean, Canada's already been a democracy for 139 years, yet we still learn about things like Marx-Engels, Adam Smith, Communism, Socialism, Capitalism, and Laissez-faire economics, because each of these ideologies have its flaws and advantages we can learn from.

Anyway, if universal health care isn't really the thing for the american people, I think that's totally understand. Every nation has a right to determine what's good for its people. If private health care works, then it should be kept. Simple.

Yeah, but private health care doesn't work, that's for sure. But obviously there's no easy solution. Countless minds considerably brighter than yours or mine have struggled with this for decades, and come up with nothing. At least nothing useful. And the communist thing isn't a rational response, it's just a purely emotional thing for American. It's hard to explain to a country that never went through McCarthyism and witch hunts and black lists. I mean, just look at what happened to Hillary Clinton when she proposed universal health care. They ate her alive.

Just to point out... this thread is getting slightly off topic. I mean, ya'll are being 'completely honest and practical', but still.

Hi, I'm currently pulling a D in my Precalc class. I honestly can't concentrate in that class anymore :/ I'm always so tired and I've been sick and to make things worse, I see a boy I like the period before and whenever I'm really alert, my attention is focused on the period before. I'm going to really try and bring it up, though. My other grades are okay, As and a couple Bs and I'm going to try and pull one of those Bs to an A (the other B I'm kind of resigned to XD). If I end up getting all As, a B, and a D at the end of the semester (which hopefully will not happen and I'll be able to pull it to a C), will I be rescinded? =/ How about if I talk to colleges and talk to them about it before they see the grades? =/

And I'm competing for a full tuition scholarship at a school. If I get this scholarship and I do attend this school, will I be still allowed to attend only with my scholarship revoked? Or something like that? I'm positively terrified right now and I'm going to work very hard for the rest of the semester to bring my grade up to a C or maybe even a low B.

Thanks :/ Sorry if this question has been asked before; I haven't read the entire thread.

try to see if you can pull the D up to at least a C-, but you should talk to the schools about it ahead of time just so you don't get any suprises.

Yeah you guys, as long as your grades aren't significantly lower overall than they were when you got accepted and you don't get anything below a C you ought to be fine.

Posters who want answers about their own situations should use the new thread button and start their own threads. That will allow more people to see their post, and it also will keep them from hijacking the OP's post here.

Here's a novel idea... keep working as hard as you've been working throughout high school!

:-)

I'm trying to do that, Chackster, but unfortunately I'm not very good at math to begin with and as the class is an Honors class, it's just made even worse. I suppose part of the reason for the low grade is that my average to slightly above average innate math ability is finally catching up with me after all these years, although it doesn't really excuse it. I'd drop down but it's probably too late in the semester to do that. My other math class, AP Stats, is still a solid A, though, if that makes things a bit better.

I'm determined to succeed in this class, though, regardless. I am going to be putting more time into this class than all of my other classes combined, but I am willing to do it. I've been pretty successful on the Honors track up until this point and am very hopeful for a turnaround.

I'll do that, Northstarmom. And thanks, peindre?.
