Let's cut the cut-throat myth once and for all

here's a repost of things

"perro is cut throat too, he lit a kid on fire just because he was afraid the kid would do better than him on the next exam..."

"I'm sitting here at Uris right now pulling an all-nighter and there are some people here too. When they weren't looking, I replaced their coffees with battery acid. It's hard to do well in class if you're in the hospital instead muahahhahahah"

"oh... and yeah... definately stay away from Shizz... or at least don't accept coffee from him....at least while you're in Uris Lib....

Now if you're in Olin across the street... well. that's a differnt story..."

"Hey i dont light people on fire, i kill entire families in their sleep. Especially babies. Get it straight."

"sorry.. i dumb. T_T" -----by Dreaming,

dreaming, plz say you're NOT poisoned by that Dumberizer plant

"I can surely wait 133 days for intense cI can surely wait 133 days for intense competition and hard workompetition and hard work"

"Dude. I'm hardcore, study 24/7, steal your notes and sell them on eBay, spill coffee on your computer disks, lock you in your dorm room so you can't go to class, spread rumors you cheat on tests and plagiarize HARDCORE CUT THROAT"

"but do you throw students off gorges and frame the incidents as "suicides?" if you dont do that you're not hardcore"

"I think students do that on their own. We know that students just jump into the gorges on a nightly basis at such a cut-throat school as Cornell."

"Yes, they commit suicide at Cornell by the dozens each night!"

Hearing from you guys, it makes one think Cornell is the MOST cut-throat of all the Ivies.
No... makes me think Cornell is the,
The hardcore cut-throat concentration camp of all cut-throat universities!

It probably even has its own major in how to literally cut a classmate's throat...while they're asleep at night of course

Now I am willing to pay the extra 800 BUCKs to demand a single room dorm, so I wouldn't be murdered when I sleep, if I ever get the chance to sleep at all in Cornell, with the 24/7 schedule stuff. PLeeeaase tell me there're more singles available?!? I will have to wait until May 1 or just before to decide to go to cornell.

I've even heard about a secret garden in Cornell, you know where they grow poisonous plants that you can administer to your "friends" and they'll be so "drugged" as becoming dumber than a doorknob, but definitely won't die because it is not a fatal toxin, and chemistry labs cannot identify the wonderful drugger. Come on guys, what's the plant's name?

What else do you do at Cornell? Let's hear more positive things. There probably arent many more hardcore cut-throat people than some of my hs mates. I guess I'd shudder when I have eye contact with them, if I even dare to look. I KNOW THIS ,, because when you walk by them,... you get the tingly feeling down your spine as if you're in a movie nightmare. .time to WAKE UP!

IS CORNELL CUT-THROAT A MYTH OR A TRUTH?
i don wanna die dumb dumb .

Omg Nooooooooo...:p

Scary!......

SERIOUSLY, I prefer Cornell's open policy about hardwork and competition to Stanford's closet worka-holics who appear cool and easy on the outside

"EVERYbody just LOVES the faaaarrrrm" --a real quote from a Stanfordian girl (btw, stanford's nickname is The Farm, which reminded me of something, which is why i did not apply)

BOTTOMLINE: CORNELL IS SO MUCH BETTER

we have a farm school if anyone wants to learn about farms lol

I used to farm, but not your average cattle farm...

Enough, if cornell's THAT CUT THROAT, i better go do work. don't wanna have senioritis , i want to be in habit

it has to be cut throat, what else would it be? you just gotta make and stick to the right set of friends...(the robots :) lol)

shoot, i guess my ant friends aren't real friends. whe n i said "I used to farm, but not your average cattle farm..." i mean by an ant farm, not body farm . yes, i guess sDALI is right, has to be comepetitive, after all , this is ivy league, and all ivies must be pretty competitive schoolss, . However, there should be a limit to the competitive spirit too.

how competitive do you think is too competitive, cutting across the line?

i heard the humanities majors aren't too bad. The pre-med and pre-engineering are hell though. When I went to Cornell, I overheard engineering students saying "Yeah I'm gonna study hard tonight. I might pull off a 40 if I'm lucky." and also, one student said of an engineering student, "He's been to hell and back!" My friend who goes there who's a humanities major said he feels bad talking to the engineering students about his workload becuz they have it so much worse. So unless you're a pre-engineering or pre-med student, you're okay!

In engineering, all classes are curved.

That "40%" might actually end up being an A or B. It doesn't matter how well you do, only how well everybody else does.

classes are cornell are definitely hard, especially since they are curved. your grade is dependent on the rest of the class, so it is very hard to be exceptional in a school where students not only work hard, but are also very smart. college is unlike hs where you can depend on the slacker in your class that doesn't study to bring down the mean.

Isn't the curve only for some colleges/courses like engineering and huge survey classes?

That is what they say, but if you look at the median grade reports, they do not vary that much from semester to semester. Even if they say that they do not grade by a curve, the grades will not vary that much.

http://registrar.sas.cornell.edu/Student/mediangrades.html

Woah wait, isn't there a difference between being cut throat and being competitive? Cornellians generally seem the "demand a lot from myself" type but it's not like they're homicidal... right? :p

And if you want a repost along diff lines...

some kids here are cut throat. one example is from a couple years ago during the intro bio lab practical. some of the kids decided to change some of the displays during the test so that everyone else that would look at them would get the answers wrong. also, there have been cases when students would write their names on other people's tests and turn them in as their own. i'm also sure there are a few people here who feed people incorrect answers for their problem sets.

^^^ That was how I was able to get my A+ in intro bio lab (j/k)

I'm sure there are a few bad apples (as there are at every school) but I've said it and I'll say it again here: 99% of the people I've met have been more than willing to help and the other 1% have been neutral.

That quote wasn't by me but it might as well have. (Except I can't spell "cameraderie")

i dont go to the school and i pity u Shawn...
