Lets get down to business, to defeat the Huns!

My friend told me it was time to make my first chance thread and I am rather nervous. Sorry if I forget something, but I don't think I will, seeing that I will type too much.

Status:Caucasian Male Theatre Kid
Residence: Northern Virgina, closer to West Virginia. Unlike the rest of "urban" NoVA, I will in a rural part bording WV, so yeah, not so DC-ish.

Stats
GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.949/5.2 W
Rank: 3/207(?)---I have the possibility of make it to 2nd, but it is doubtful.

SATs:

First Time(little prep): 1840

Math: 590
Critical reading: 560
Writing: 690

Second Time(more prep): 1810

Math: 590
Critical reading:600
Writing: 620

Third Time(little prep): 2110

Math: 670
Critical reading: 680
Writing: 760

I am not good at time tests, but I am starting toget the hang of it. There is an on-going joke in math about if I can get a quiz or test done in a certain limit, everyone should. Sure, I ace the test, but it takes me a bit. Will retake this 1 or 2 more times.

SATs: None taken yet, but plan to take Math 2 and U.S. History

I have achieved my IB Diploma, barely, this year as a junior instead of a senior.
Math SL: 6
English HL: 5
TOK HL: 4
Spanish SL: 3
Environmental Systems: 4 (1 one of 2 people)
IB History: 4
TOK 1 (Extra Subject): 5
Total: 26 points

However, I had expected around a 35 or possibly higher. The week the IB tests started, I found out my father had cancer. Along with that, I had to call the police on my best-friend who was trying to commit suicide and basically ruining many things for her, who was put on suicide watch and had to go to the hospital for evaluation. It was the worst timing, and I was not really in the best states of minds to take the tests.

While I got the IBs gone, out school offers 3 AP classes, all of which I am taking next year.

My school sends some kids to top schools, but on the low side of "some."

I would like to apply to:

Stanford
Dartmouth
Brown
U of C
Emory
UVA
William and Mary
Oberlin
Denison
JMU
CNU

I know I have many reaches, but I needed some elses ideas. Sorry again that this is soo effing long, but thanks for your time. :)

I will chance back as well. :D

Mannnn, long post, haha. Your ECs look great. Definitely use your experience with GSA; by establishing the fact that you can found it in a place like rural Virginia, you’re a great candidate. GPA is good, IBs are a little weak. STOP TAKING THE SATs! Once you get over four sittings, unless you use Score Choice, colleges get suspicious! However, your ECs are really really great, and probably be your ticket.

Stanford: high reach - but you’ve got great ECs; you’ve got a decent shot.
Dartmouth: mid reach
Brown: mid reach
U of C: if you’re a good writer, low reach; otherwise mid to high reach
Emory: low reach/high match
UVA: match
William and Mary: ooh, they’re picky, but high match
Oberlin: no idea
Denison: no idea
JMU: no idea what this is
CNU: don’t even know what this is haha

Good luck hombre! Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/745143-ill-chance-you-if-you-chance-me.html</a></p>

Haha, I know about the IB scores. I want to use my expaination, because I KNOW I should have been higher, but oh well. So it goes.

As for SATs, I know that I can do better? My first two times were really bad, but the third time, I did not prep a whole lot and got a pretty good, not great, score. I think if I take it again, I will get between a 2200-2250 (Cr- 700, Math 700-750, Writing 800)

Thanks for the reply, and I am off to chance you. :)

There was this obnoxious thing on local TV here, this awful self-help segment, called “Oh Well, That’s Life!”

Haha, this makes me think of that for some reason. I think colleges will overlook your IB scores, really.

^ Haha, I was quoting “Slaughter House Five” or rather Kurt Vonnoget(Sp?) in general.

And I kinda hope they do. :)

Before i chance you, a few things: First, loved your title. I freaking love Mulan and that’s the reason i clicked into your thread to chance

Second: I will chance your list, but if you like theatre so much(as do i, although i’m a techie, well, stage manager, but still) , why not try for a couple of good BA/BFA programs. That way you keep your options open. I suggest CMU, Milikan, and maybe Muhlenberg since you seem to also want to focus on academics…just a thought

Stanford-ehh…a bit too high of a reach for you i think
Dartmouth-same as above
Brown -i think you got a decent shot here. Plus, they have a great theatre
U of C-unsure
Emory-reach, but doable
UVA-low reach
William and Mary-high match
Oberlin-reach
Denison-prob in…similar stats as cousin who currently attends
JMU-unsure
CNU-unsure

UVA=reach? I am instate. :P

easy in at UVirginia

^Agreed. Not to sound arrogant, but I think William and Mary along with UVA are easy matches, seeing that I am instate. Looking at some of my good friends who got in this year with sub-1900 SATs,or even less, but in top 10 students, I think I have a good chance. However, I may be wrong.

Come on, a few more people please. :D

Mulan hahaha. Alright, now to the chancin’…
Only thing really hurting you is the SAT’s. Try the ACT at all?

Stanford - mega reach with that SAT I
Dartmouth - reach, good shot
Brown - same as dartmouth
Emory - match

Chance back?: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/741629-chance-improvements-2011-urm-3.html</a></p>

^ Thanks dude. I know I have to retake them. Would I have a better shot at these schools with around a 2200? 2250? It is doable, I just want motivation that it will do something for my application. :)

And sure thing man. Thanks for responding.

You are awesome.

(And I quote.)

Seriously though. This is looking good for you.

^ Ugh, I love you dear. Why can’t we just combine outselves and take out Maddie!

hmm, mostly reaches, but not unrealistic. how did you improve your score so much the third time? dont just say third times the charm :P

Um, I really don’t know. I have MAJOR timed test-taking problems, but by the third time I was getting confortable. However, I still missed dumb things that I knew because I rushed at the end, like forgetting to divide an area by 2 and not seeeing a square sign and reading a “-” as a “+.” Little things like that, caused by rushing, kill me. I still did not prep though, which is really weird. Conversely, I am prepping this summer for them and the SAT2s.

thanks for the chance! Your GPA/class rank and ECs are great, though your SATs are lacking ( as you know) dont take it any more times! try the ACT instead, you might be surprised. colleges dont like taking it more than three times. good for you for getting your score into the acceptable range
Stanford-Reach
Dartmouth-low reach
Brown low reach
U of C-high match
Emory-high match
UVA-match-high match
William and Mary-same
Oberlin-high match
Denison-not familiar
JMU-not familiar
CNU-not familiar

^Thanks dude. I was thinking about the ACTs, but I am not so good at timed tests. Soo, I will see where to go from here. :)

Stanford: high reach
Dartmouth: mid reach/high reach
Brown: mid reach/high reach
U of C:mid reach/high reach
Emory: low reach/mid reach
UVA: match
William and Mary: match/low reach
Oberlin: no idea
Denison: no idea
JMU: no idea
CNU: no idea
