"UCSD students are like UCSD, in that you only know a little, and are good at a little, can not even claim yourself having a well-rounded education."

spoken like the stereotypical USC student. Arrogant and Close-minded. I would certainly encourage you to examine how well-rounded your own education is before attacking an institution that is more academically prominent than USC.

USC needs to realize that while it may have a lot of money,if it does not offer academic rigor, it will merely revert to countryclub-like atmosphere that it is rooted in. btw, some would argue that it is already a country club atmosphere at USC, wealthy arrogant and conservative.

I am not going to insult you so please dont equate me with knowing little. I was taught by the same professors at ucsd that are heralded in my field, in politics. In fact, I consider my education at UCSD to be a great foundation for my grad education at Oxford.

Only about 40 other universities in the US have conducted a campaign of $1 billion or more. Of those ~40, UCSD is the youngest. The second youngest is UCLA, which is twice the age of UCSD.

Looks like UCSD is ahead of schedule?

I'd also like to add that we're half way there as of Sept, 2003.

megastud, it's ok to disagree with my ranking. Exactly what is it that bothers you? Is it because I placed USC 8th? Sorry, but I believe that the top schools of the UC system are superior to USC. Many polls back me up on this. UC-Berkeley, UCLA, UC-San Diego, & UC-SB are world class institutions. I believe all 4 rank among the top universities in the world. USC is a great school, but CA has so many top notch universities.

My apologies Miriam. The OP said to use the measures you want so I suppose it's fair enough. I'm just wondering what measures you're putting the most weight on. If you're simply going off of research power which you've promoted so much recently, I'd move USC to 6 and UCI to 7 and then I'd agree.
