Animosity is only rampat in my post because I hate people making conclusions for "international prestige" based on their, unsubstantiated opinions.

Not only very naiive, but very brutish as well.

@ College2006
Brown and Dartmouth are fairly unkown abroad (at least in india). Bravo dude... using an example of one person who went to dartmouth really makes its prestige sky-rocket.

I'm 17 years old currently living in India (I've also lived in UK and US for a couple of years in primary and middle school). I've never ever heard of Brown/Dartmouth until i started the college app. process a couple of months ago. Nobody that i know of has ever heard of brown/dartmouth.

You say that the people who matter all know of brown/dart.... maybe in your opinion the people who know of brown/dart are the only ppl that matter.
You've actually said the the only ppl who matter are CEOs of big businesses - way to go dude, you really have a balanced perspective of the world we live in - i'm sure with that attitude you can ass-kiss your way right to the the middle-management sector of the corporate fock world.
Do you think that i don't know a single person who "Matters" ? but i don't know anyone who's heard of dart/brown

So dude, just cuz you've researched every college there is or you have some sort of a vested interest in defending brown/dart...doesn't mean everyone should've heard of it so......... shut it

although this is only ivies, i'm including nonivies in my list because they are just as well known

1) harvard <--most prestige and money
2) mit <--its science is number one
3) yale
4) columbia <-- location helps
5) princeton <-- awesome undergraduate, however outside of US, people don't really know it because it lacks a strong grad program

I think the Internationals have a very flawed understanding of US COLLEGE prestige. They tend to equate University prestige with undergrad prestige because that is how it works in foreign countries. The US, on the other hand, is a very different story. For the most part I have seen that it is:

Harvard
Yale
Princeton

Columbia/ Dartmouth/ Brown/ Penn

Cornell

In regards to the middle-management comment. I think it shows a lack of understanding, very few Ivy grads end up at major companies and middle management almost never happens. Most Ivy grads who go into the corporate sector tend to go to the elite finance and consulting first, and into associate or higher management positions post-MBA.

Let me stress that INTERNATIONAL PRESTIGE cannot be based on the opinion of guy who has nothing to do with universities, or is just someone on the street.

I'm from India too...thats why I used it as an example. Does it matter if the poor man from India knows which Ivy league school is the best?!

No you idiot. It's the Secretary of the Treasury, CEOs of Investment banks, and other IMPORTANT posts.

And i can assure you these people DO know about Dartmouth/Brown.
