Let's say...

hypothetically speaking, how difficult is it to transfer from College of Engineering to College of Chemistry?

I am a entering as a declared civil engineering major, but to be safe, I wanted a back up major that I know I would enjoy most definitely, chemistry or biological chemistry (civil engineering is intriguing, but still unsure a tad). I looked into a bunch of stuff about transferring at Berkeley just to see the general procedure and I'm a little bit unclear on some aspects.

I know there is a requirement of one semester in your major before switching. But seeing that I am an engineering major, I begin some of my classes the first year. So is it a given then... that I will waste money on classes that have nothing to do with a chem major (I know that there is only myself to blame)? And what type of reason are they looking for for switching?

Then I was also thinking that if I do plan to switch, what kind of prequisites are they looking for? Like the basic general ed? Or some courses in the major?

Some help or a personal experience on transferring would be fantastic. :)

No comments? Maybe I was too specific. I do mean just the general process in transferring, not so much major specific.
